Artwork & Creativity

The main inspiration for art and creativity of Halls High was Persona.  The art style of this game is cartoony and light-hearted, with minimal shading. Primary colors are used in this game to evoke an approachable sense of childishness in a story about a child that needs to grow up. The characters Jeremiah, Adir and Val are illustrated and animated with simple and more childlike features to encourage the player to identify with them easily as well as to stick with the theme of the game. The style that the characters are drawn in is also influenced by modern Japanese illustration, which is evident especially in the eyes and the expressions that the characters make. The environments themselves are drawn more realistically than the characters due to what some illustrators refer to as the “masking effect” which is also a common trait of Japanese illustration. The “masking effect” in this game serves to allow the player to emphasize more with the simple lines of the character and to become immersed in the comparatively realistic background.
