Creation of Halls High

HALLS HIGH

Jeremiah is failing his classes and is far too lazy to care. However, when his principle turns out to be a mysterious wizard his world changes. With the existence of a hallway to an alternate dimension Jeremiah begins to change. This dimension begins a wild adventure that Jeremiah could never have expected. Inspired by Persona and Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Halls High is a coming of age story about a black teenager who must learn the importance of dealing with both immaturity and yourself. 

LEVELS

Level One

Underground Railroad 

Halls High is focused around history during the mid-1800s, where the player is forced to contend with bats, rats, and snakes in an interesting rock, paper, scissors dynamic on how to defeat enemies while learning about the Underground Railroad throughout the level.  

The Halls High level was created around the aspect of teaching the player. While liberties were taken during their creation, the team tried to craft it so that it would be capable of teaching the player something. The level is not just a meager representation of a history, trying to appease a player. Just as Adir teaches Jeremiah the point of the levels is to teach the player about black history. To help them understand not only do they have to mature, but that their own history matters. It states that your history defines who you are, and you can live up to the accomplishments or remain as a child.
